Is Galatea completely free to use? high
No. While the app offers some free reading (e.g., 1 point per day via check-in), most chapters require 4-20 points to unlock. Points are primarily obtained through purchases ($0.99-$399.99 per item). A subscription plan ($5/month-ish, per one reviewer) offers unlimited access with no wait times.

How long do I have to wait between free chapters? medium
Multiple recent reviewers report wait times of 5 to 6 hours between unlocks of the next chapter or two without spending points. One reviewer said '2 chapters every 5 hours'; another said 'it takes SIX hours to unlock the next chapter or two.' These wait times are a recurring concern in the recent review sample.

Does the app support audiobooks and ebooks? high
Yes. The app description states it offers ebooks, audiobooks, and interactive fiction. It allows switching between reading and listening, and U.S. subscribers can access print books. Recent user reviews do not specifically comment on audiobook quality, but the feature is listed in the app metadata.

Is the subscription worth it compared to buying individual points? medium
Recent reviews show mixed opinions. One reviewer said the subscription (around $5/month) was 'only worth it' to avoid wait times, but another described the unlimited option as a 'twisted arm' purchase. The subscription provides unlimited access, offline reading, and no wait times, but individual chapter costs through points can escalate quickly (up to 20 points each).

AI generated: Yes
- Google Play user reviews (5 (preferred: 12-20) per app), December 09, 2024 to April 25, 2026
- Google Play ratings distribution
- App Store listing metadata
- Review samples are not statistically representative of all user sentiment
- Only 5 recent reviews were available; this is a very small sample.
- Claims labeled 'medium confidence' are based on 2-3 reviews within the same (recent) bucket.
- Claims labeled 'low confidence' would reflect single-review observations, but none present in this analysis.
- No real-world app testing was conducted.
- Feature availability may vary by region, device, and app version.
- Overall rating (4.6) suggests many users are satisfied, but recent review sample shows strong frustration with payment model—this may reflect a recent change or selection bias in recent reviews.

2★The books are great. However if you want to read more than one chapter a day or one chapter a week you have to spend money. You can earn 1 point a day by "checking in" but when most chapters cost 4 points, they go quick. I could buy books from a big retail store for cheaper than the cost if I was to buy points. And I read too many other reviews about the "unlimited" option to avoid it. My response to the automated reply... is what "daily tasks"?

3★Had the app about a week? I'm currently reading like five stories, and they're engaging and enjoyable enough. But I'm having to read so many simultaneously because it takes SIX hours to unlock the next chapter or two. I'm not likely to spend points to unlock them, because the point generation is negligible, only one a day and some one-time unlocks. I'm a free2play girlie, I ain't spending irl money for fake money. I'll watch an ad for some in-app currency, but they don't offer that.

1★Would give 0 stars if possible! Got the app to read free books from indie, underground authors. I expected ads but what I didn't expect was that I would only be able to read 2 chapters every 5 hours. They twist your arm into buying the unlimited which I did. Unlimited said it was $5 something a month so I said cool cause I had like $20 on my bank account. This app really charged me $76.64 plus whatever this "courtesy" fee is which was $32 somehow totally bypassing my overdraft protection. >:(

3★Edited again: It looks like they finally took advice & came up with a membership. They still have it where the points needed to unlock chapters go up considerably as you unlock new ones. That still feels skeevy to me. It quickly turns into 20 points each chapter. It's basically only worth it to get the subscription (that you have to pay yearly, upfront), which is probably the point. Stories are pretty good, so I think it's worth it, but only for the sub.

2★I'm not a huge fan of the wait times. I'm also not happy about the lack of things to do to get points, other than making purchases. I get it. The app and the authors need to make their money, too. I just don't like reading books in increments, and I don't like spending a buttload of cash to get points that expire if they aren't used right away. The only saving grace... the books are pretty good. This is why I'm bitter about the wait times and the lack of point options 🤷🏼♀️
