How to Use
MyFitnessPal is a health and nutrition app designed to help users track their food intake, exercise, and achieve weight and fitness goals by logging meals and workouts in a single place. (app_description)
Getting Started
Source: app_description_and_user_feedback_noted
- Download the MyFitnessPal app from the Google Play Store and create a free account.
- Set your health and fitness goals (e.g., weight loss, maintenance, or gain) and the app will recommend daily calorie and macro targets.
- Start logging your meals by searching the food database. You can scan barcodes or use voice logging with a Premium subscription.
- Log your physical activity, including workouts and step counts, either manually or by connecting a fitness tracker or smartwatch.
Key Features (from app listing)
Source: app_description
- Food Tracker: Log meals from a database of over 20.5 million foods, including restaurant dishes.
- Macro Tracker: View your daily breakdown of carbs, fat, and protein.
- Fitness Tracker: Add workouts and steps, and see how exercise affects your daily calorie goals.
- Personalized Dashboards: View your fitness, health, and diet stats all in one place.
This tip is directly responsive to the user complaint in recent_reviews #4 about wildly inconsistent calorie counts for the same item, suggesting that relying on barcodes or verified entries may provide more reliable data.

- Claims labeled 'low confidence' are based on single-review observations only.
- Claims labeled 'medium confidence' are based on 2 reviews, but from the same sampling bucket.
- No real-world app testing was conducted.
- Feature availability may vary by region, device, and app version.
- The absence of positive reviews in the sample likely does not reflect the app's overall user satisfaction, given its 4.4-star rating.

1★What Am I paying for, if every time I do a search for something I ate within the last day doesn't show up? This is annoying and time consuming. There really isn't much of an advantage to paying for a premium membership if I have to go through all the extra work to find the foods that I'm commonly eating anyway. Perhaps it's an algorithm change to get people to pay for the premium plus. Regardless, I likely will not be renewing my membership.

2★While I have been using the app since 2013, the latest update has ruined the functionality of the app. Previously, I could type a brand name into the search and pull up recent items. Now I have to type in a keyword from the item description. Bring back the ability to search by brand! It also deleted all my recent foods and I now have to re-enter them. An update should make the app better, not break previous functionality!

3★App is running worse & worse, day by day. This app used to be the best. I recently installed MFP because I started a serious weight loss goal. At first it was working perfectly. I'm familiar with MFP because I had used it 5 years ago to lose weight & it 100% helped me reach my goal then. Now, the app is VERY unreliable. It never picks up my steps from my fitness watch or other apps like Map My Fitness. It's adding exercises on days I've done zero (couch potato days). Very, very unreliable.

2★Update: that's a stupid to add to the notes This sucks that you can't track magnesium for your electrolytes. They don't even have the option to add magnesium when you create a food. Their help site says to create a food and add your supplements there. Hello!!! It's not listed. I mean how hard is it to add it to the list of nutrients. That post was a few years ago and it's still not an option. They have no problem changing the app for the worse. I have premium. I expect to be able to custom add.

1★Terrible, terrible design. User interface is the most confusing, non-intuitive design imaginable. Also, wildly inconsistent calorie counts for food items. I typed in 1 cup cooked quinoa and saw search results ranging from 120 calories to 225. The search results appeared crowd sourced, so accuracy is dubious. People just write in their opinions, defeats the purpose of counting calories. Stay away from this app.
