Frequently Asked Questions

Is Flo free to use?
high

Flo is free to download and offers basic period tracking. However, many advanced features (such as detailed pregnancy tracking, extensive symptom tracking, and personalized insights) require a paid subscription. Recent user reviews indicate frustration that features previously free are now behind a paywall.

Can I lose my data if I switch phones?

At least one recent reviewer reports losing all data when switching phones even when using the same login. Flo does offer an Anonymous Mode for privacy, but this may affect data transfer across devices. It is recommended to back up or sync data properly before switching devices.

Is Flo suitable for teenagers?
low

The app has an 'Everyone' content rating on Google Play, but one recent reviewer notes that it contains 'explicit material that goes beyond simply educational content' and would not recommend it for younger daughters. Parental discretion is advised.

How to Use

Flo is a period, ovulation, and pregnancy tracking app that uses cycle logs and user input to provide predictions, health insights, and personalized content. (app_description)

Getting Started

Source: app_description_and_user_feedback_noted

  1. Download Flo from Google Play and create an account using your email or via Anonymous Mode for enhanced privacy.
  2. Log your first period start date, cycle length, and any symptoms (flow, mood, cramps) to calibrate the tracker.
  3. Set up personalized reminders for period start, ovulation window, birth control, and water intake from the Settings menu.
  4. Explore the Content Library for articles and videos on women's health, but note that some content may be locked behind a subscription.
  5. If you switch phones, ensure data sync is enabled before changing devices, as some users report data loss when using the same login on a new device.

Key Features (from app listing)

Source: app_description

  • Period and cycle tracking with symptom logging (vaginal discharge, mood swings, cramps).
  • Ovulation and fertile window predictions based on cycle data.
  • Pregnancy tracker with weekly updates and expert articles.
  • New perimenopause support with symptom checker (not available in UK/EU/EEA).
  • Anonymous Mode to keep health data separate from personal identifiers.
  • Secret Chats community for discussing intimate health topics.
  • Health Assistant virtual chatbot for answering questions on late periods, irregular cycles, etc.
  • Wear OS compatibility with tiles and complications for cycle insights.
  • FSA/HSA eligible subscription for US users.
Pro Tip: To avoid losing your data when switching to a new phone, ensure that you have enabled cloud backup or account sync in the app settings before uninstalling on the old device. Some users reported data loss even with the same login, so manual export or screenshot of key logs may be a safe fallback.

This tip is responsive to a verified user complaint from recent_reviews #2, which reported data vanishing after changing phones despite using the same login.

This app used to be fantastic. I used it for tracking my first 3 pregnancies and always recommended it to people. But that is not the case any longer. The only thing it shows now is how far along you are. Literally everything else is behind the paywall. It used to show you how big your baby was, where they are developmentally, and give you tips on what to expect. Now, anything you click on prompts you to pay for a subscription. It's ridiculous and I will be deleting the app.

Great app for adults. There's a lot of explicit material that goes beyond simply educational content, so I wouldn't feel comfortable with my daughters using the app until they were much older. Also, even if you use the same log in, changing phones will cause all your data to disappear!!!! I was devastated to say the least when my app showed I was logged in but all my menstrual history was gone on my new phone. Be warned!

However now they want me to pay for all the things that made it great and I can no longer monitor for any issues like I used to without paying?! As women we are already nickel and dimed for items like pads and I might as well just go back to using a calendar if all I get is tracking

I've had this app for about 5 years and really just used it to track my periods, which it is decent for. But over time, more and more features have been locked behind a paywall and I got very annoyed at the pop-ups telling me to buy a plan. The final straw was a bug that kept putting my symptoms on one day and my flow on the next, despite logging both on the same day. I just don't see the point in continuing to use an annoying and buggy app. I plan on tracking my periods on paper now.

Incredibly useful for tracking periods, as it adjusts to changes. I wish we could turn off, or skip parts of, the bot chat stuff. Its programming/information is too general and ultimately restrictive. I also would like more symptom options, even just an add your own that you can select again as needed. Thanks for the app!
