Tips for Better Experience
Source: app_description_and_user_feedback_noted
- Always check trail conditions and recent reviews before heading out, as some trails may charge admission or have misleading descriptions.
- When using GPS recording, move slowly at the start to help the indicator track your position accurately; some users report lag when changing directions.
- If you cannot see the full trail photo gallery, try tapping on individual images instead of swiping, as the swipe feature may be limited.
- For the best experience, consider a subscription if you frequently hike in areas without cell service, as offline maps are a premium feature.
Derived from a recent 3-star review complaining that trails with admission fees are not clearly marked, causing users to drive out only to find they cannot access the trail without payment.

“There is no way to drop a GPS waypoint on the map. I think it is a must for any hiking app. The other problem is the location indicator. When hiking, it should be smooth as you are changing directions. The location indicator sometimes does not move for up 20 seconds after you change directions.”Rating: 3★ November 06, 2024 102 likes

1★SCAM!!! They are hiding the unsubscribing function so deep that you have to spend a lot of time figuring out where, in three different platforms, it is hidden, and how to deactivate it. They don't even have an unsubscribe button, and under the "Edit Account," you'll have to figure out that turning off autopay is a subscription cancellation! I'll never return to support this tricky, dirty marketing tactic.

1★I used the plus version daily for years to get accurate mileage for my daily walks. Simultaneously with the introduction of "Peak," my mileages started showing up as a straight line between the start and the farthest point. I tried many fixes including uninstalling and reinstalling. I believe the only effective "fix" will be to upgrade to Peak. Nope. I'm deleting my payment information and will move on to an app that doesn't try to extort money from me.

3★Pretty good but could be better. As I use the app more, unfortunately I find more issues with it. I want to be able to simply swipe through the pictures of a trail, but I cannot find a way to do that other than the first few when they are partially obscured by other information, then it prompts me to switch to thumbnails of all images, and I cannot swipe through the full images. Also, if I select a national park, I cannot use filters to select among the hikes. Very frustrating.

3★There is no way to drop a GPS waypoint on the map. I think it is a must for any hiking app. The other problem is the location indicator. When hiking, it should be smooth as you are changing directions. The location indicator sometimes does not move for up 20 seconds after you change directions. It's not good when you are trying to find your way. It seems alltrails lack the basic essentials for a hiking app.

3★I like this app for the ability to search trails, however, I wish the trails that charge admission were marked instead of having people drive all the way out to an area just to find out it's a campground and you can't get in without paying. The very next trail we tried was out in the middle of nowhere, it just dropped us off on a residential road where we had no service, nowhere to park, and no trail in sight. We're traveling and so far, this app is sending us on a goose chase.
